Professional education and the learning business

A professional educator starts with a performance promise, not a list of topics. Specify who the learner is, which task they will perform, the conditions in which they will perform it and the evidence that will demonstrate success. A course can develop capability; it cannot by itself remove a broken process, provide equipment or guarantee employment. Separate these dependencies in a brief so the buyer understands what education can realistically achieve. Treat a course as a service with a lifecycle: investigate needs, agree a bounded brief, design, produce, test, publish, support and improve. Record decisions and ownership at each stage. For a client assignment, agree deliverables, revision rounds, acceptance criteria and handover responsibilities before production. Keep a change log when the scope changes, rather than silently accepting extra work that prevents completion.

Practice focus: Create a one-page client brief with audience, performance task, exclusions, deliverables, acceptance evidence, dependencies and revision process.

Enrolment provides access to the full learning materials and assessments.

What you will study

01Professional education and the learning business

Create a one-page client brief with audience, performance task, exclusions, deliverables, acceptance evidence, dependencies and revision process.

02Audience research and needs diagnosis

Write five neutral research questions, compare two evidence sources, and produce a needs matrix separating skill gaps from process or resource gaps.

03Measurable outcomes and evidence alignment

Produce four observable outcomes and an alignment matrix. For each outcome, name the evidence and one limitation of the assessment method.

04Evidence, originality and responsible production

Create a source-and-rights register for five claims or assets, including verification dates and one unresolved item with a safe replacement plan.

05Curriculum architecture and learning sequence

Create a module map, draw prerequisite dependencies and design a capstone that integrates three earlier skills without adding untaught requirements.

06Instructional writing, examples and feedback

Write one explanation, a fully worked example, a faded example with missing steps, an independent task and feedback for two likely errors.

07Inclusive design and accessible learning materials

Audit a sample PDF for reading order, headings, selectable text, contrast, mobile readability and visual alternatives. Record defects, fixes and remaining limitations.

08Assessment design and decision quality

Write three scenario questions with rationale for the correct option and each distractor. Ask a reviewer to look for ambiguity, clues and untaught material.

09Evaluation, quality assurance and improvement

Prepare a release checklist and a small evaluation plan covering learner experience, demonstrated learning and one possible transfer measure.

10Learning-project planning and delivery

Create a production plan with effort estimates, dependencies, milestones, a revision allowance and three risks with response actions.

11Editorial review and publication control

Create a review-response matrix for five comments, including one justified disagreement and one change that affects multiple course sections.

12Educational entrepreneurship and unit economics

Build a three-scenario budget with development cost, royalty, variable cost, break-even volume and a clear statement of uncertainty.

13Consultative enrollment and trustworthy operations

Prepare a discovery script, a course-fit recommendation, two objection responses and a payment-check checklist with escalation triggers.

14Customer experience, partnerships and responsible growth

Design a service response playbook, a complaint escalation map and a partner invitation that clearly explains eligibility, costs and boundaries.

15Performance reporting, financial records and capstone

Assemble the portfolio, reconcile an illustrative reward ledger and write a one-page report with measures, limitations and a thirty-day improvement plan.
